Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde appointed Rajeshwar Singh as the new Chief State Election Commissioner (SEC) of Rajasthan on September 17, 2025, succeeding Madhukar Gupta. Singh, a retired IAS officer with a 35-year career, will oversee the State Election Commission's mandate of ensuring free and fair panchayat and municipal elections.

The appointment is significant as Rajasthan has elections due for several urban and rural local bodies. The SEC functions independently under Article 243K of the Constitution for superintendence, direction and control of the preparation of electoral rolls and conduct of local elections.
