During his first bilateral visit to Ethiopia (December 16-17), Prime Minister Modi was conferred the 'Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia' — the country's highest award — by Ethiopian PM Dr. Abiy Ahmed at the Addis International Convention Centre. Modi became the first head of state or government to receive this honour.

This is the 28th top foreign state award bestowed on PM Modi. He dedicated the award to 1.4 billion Indians and those who have nurtured India-Ethiopia ties. India and Ethiopia signed agreements on digital public infrastructure, agriculture, and traditional medicine cooperation.
