Two beaches of Odisha — Sunapur Beach in Ganjam district and Puri Golden Beach — were awarded Blue Flag Certification for 2025-26, while India achieved Blue Flag certification for 18 beaches by the 2025-26 season. The Blue Flag is an internationally recognized eco-label awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), Denmark.

Blue Flag certification requires meeting 33 stringent criteria covering environmental education, water quality, environmental management, and safety. India's first Blue Flag beaches were designated in 2020. Rajasthan, being landlocked, does not have beaches but the state's lake and wetland tourism at destinations like Udaipur and Pushkar follows similar sustainability principles.
