India submitted its 7th National Report (NR7) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the first full national assessment since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) in December 2022. The report reviews India's progress in biodiversity conservation and sets benchmarks for the '30x30' target of protecting 30% of land and sea by 2030.

India's total forest and tree cover has reached 8,27,356.95 sq km, or 25.17% of its geographical area. The report highlights achievements in Project Tiger (now within a conservation network of 58 Tiger Reserves), Project Elephant, and the Marine Protected Areas expansion. India's biodiversity hotspots — the Western Ghats and Eastern Himalayas — received special focus. Rajasthan's Desert National Park and Keoladeo Ghana are among the key protected areas discussed.
