The QS Asia University Rankings 2026, released in November 2025, ranked 294 Indian institutions, a record number. IIT Delhi retained its position as India's top university, ranked 59th in Asia with an overall score of 78.6. The University of Hong Kong topped the rankings.

Seven Indian institutions secured spots in the top 100: IIT Delhi (59th), IISc Bengaluru (64th), IIT Madras (70th), IIT Bombay (71st), IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur (both 77th), and Delhi University (95th). India had 20 universities in the top 200 and 66 in the top 500, reflecting the growing global recognition of Indian higher education.
