Indian Railways officially renamed the Ahmednagar Railway Station of Pune Division in Maharashtra to Ahilyanagar, as a tribute to Ahilyabai Holkar, the 18th-century Maratha queen renowned for her contributions to public welfare, temple construction, and progressive governance during the Holkar dynasty of Indore (1767-1795).

Ahilyabai Holkar is celebrated for her administrative acumen, patronage of arts, and extensive charitable works including the construction and renovation of Hindu temples across India, from Somnath to Varanasi. The renaming follows the recent trend of restoring historical names to Indian cities and landmarks to honour their cultural heritage. The Maharashtra government had previously renamed Ahmednagar district as Ahilyanagar.
