Official records show a Jalore inland-port/channel proposal to link landlocked Rajasthan toward the Arabian Sea, while a February 2024 PIB reply stated that National Waterway-48 (NW-48) had not been found feasible for development for shipping and navigation as per its final feasibility report.

The proposal is discussed as a way to connect western Rajasthan (Jalore, Barmer) toward the Gulf of Kutch, potentially reducing dependency on distant Gujarat ports such as Deendayal Port, Mundra and Pipavav, and could support exports of textiles, ceramics, marble, minerals, engineering goods and handicrafts from Rajasthan. Any navigable-waterway development remains subject to the official feasibility position.
