The India Skills Report 2026, released on November 14, 2025, reveals that India's employability rate has risen to 56.35% from 54.81% in 2025, signalling a decisive shift toward a skill-first economy. In a historic milestone, women's employability (54%) has surpassed men's (51.5%) for the first time in five years, driven by expansion of online learning, hybrid work models, and greater access to digital skills training. The report highlights that Computer Science graduates (80%) and IT engineers (78%) top employability metrics, driven by roles in AI, data analytics, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. India now holds 16% of the world's AI talent pool, projected to reach 1.25 million AI professionals by 2027. The gig workforce is expected to hit 23.5 million by 2030, with gig hiring growing 38% year-on-year. Top employable states are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. The report underscores the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) and Skill India Mission's positive impact on workforce development.
