In an address to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, the Food and Civil Supplies Minister revealed details of a uranium mining project in Khandela tehsil, Sikar district. The Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) will invest nearly ₹3,000 crore in the project, which will create 1,623 direct jobs with 80% reserved for local residents.

Huge deposits of uranium and associated minerals have been found across a 1,086.46-hectare area at Rohil in Khandela. After Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan becomes the third state where uranium deposits have been commercially identified. The Rajasthan government has issued a letter of intent to UCIL for mining operations. The project will boost India's nuclear fuel security and is significant for the upcoming Mahi-Banswara nuclear power plant in Rajasthan.
