UNESCO announced the designation of 58 new Creative Cities on October 31, 2025 (World Cities Day), with Lucknow named as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. Lucknow joins Hyderabad as India's second City of Gastronomy in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).

The recognition celebrates Lucknow's centuries-old culinary legacy rooted in Awadhi cuisine and the region's Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb — a unique cultural blend of Hindu and Muslim traditions. With this designation, Lucknow joins a global network of 408 cities across over 100 countries. PM Modi expressed happiness at the recognition, highlighting India's rich culinary diversity.
