On November 17, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in New Delhi between Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya and the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The partnership aims to develop smart technological solutions for national security. For exam preparation, its importance lies in showing how defence preparedness is becoming directly tied to secure digital infrastructure, transport-led logistics, and rapid deployment capability.
The MoU will serve as a basis for collaborative studies and research and development. Its focus areas include logistics management, operational logistics at tactical, operational and strategic levels, chip design, hardware security, and homomorphic and blockchain-based encryption. The collaboration is also linked with AI-driven surveillance, autonomous systems for border security, and advanced communication networks for military logistics. This shows that defence preparedness is increasingly tied not only to weapon systems, but also to data, communications, secure hardware, and the ability to deploy indigenous systems quickly.
The arrangement also stresses capacity building for researchers and scientists, joint research, seminars, conferences, capacity-building initiatives, and round-table workshops. Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya was established as a Central University by an Act of Parliament in 2022 and is India's first university in the transportation and logistics sector.
Its static-GK linkage is with defence technology, Atmanirbhar Bharat, civil-military technology cooperation, secure communication, and transport infrastructure. In prelims, the date, institutions, purpose, and technology areas are likely recall points. In mains, the issue can be used to discuss deployment of indigenous defence systems, the role of universities in national security, and the use of civilian expertise in defence research.
