Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the historic Bairabi-Sairang railway line on September 13, 2025, connecting Mizoram's capital Aizawl to the Indian Railways network for the first time. The 51.38 km line, built at a cost of ₹8,070 crore, passes through extraordinarily challenging terrain featuring 45 tunnels, 55 major bridges, and 88 minor bridges including India's second-highest railway bridge. PM Modi also flagged off three trains including the Sairang-Delhi Rajdhani Express (2,510 km journey, ~43 hours). The project marks a transformative milestone for Northeast India's connectivity.
