The President of India granted assent to the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025, commonly called the GRAM Act. This legislation replaces the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (MGNREGA) and repositions rural employment as an integrated tool for livelihood security, asset creation, and climate resilience.

The new framework introduces skill-based employment components alongside the traditional demand-driven wage employment. It integrates convergence with other rural development programmes and mandates geo-tagging of all assets created. The Act also raises the daily wage ceiling and introduces a quarterly review mechanism for wage rate revisions.
