Town Name

Sawai Madhopur town takes its name from Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I of Jaipur.

Town Foundation

Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I laid out Sawai Madhopur town during 1751-1768 AD.

Pre District Areas

Before modern district formation, the area included parts of former Karauli state and Sawai Madhopur, Gangapur and Hindaun Nizamats of former Jaipur state.

Matsya Union Entry

The former Karauli State was integrated into the Matsya Union on 17 March 1948.
