REET Level 1 study notes

Assessment, Measurement, Evaluation, CCE & Achievement Tests for REET Level 1

Assessment, measurement, and evaluation are related but distinct classroom processes for REET Level 1 teachers. Assessment gathers learning evidence through observation, oral answers, work samples, and informal records; measurement assigns a score, level, or rubric category; and evaluation interprets that evidence against criteria to decide learning and the next teaching step. Section 29 of the RTE Act 2009 mandates Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation for Classes I-V, with evidence gathered throughout the year and across scholastic as well as co-scholastic areas. An achievement test samples mastery of taught curriculum and supports both formative checking and summative reporting in primary classes.

Key points

  • Assessment gathers learning evidence; measurement assigns a score or level; evaluation interprets evidence against criteria for a teacher decision.
  • Section 29 of RTE Act 2009 mandates Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation, with continuous year-long evidence and comprehensive scholastic-and-co-scholastic coverage.
  • Formative assessment runs during learning and feeds the next teaching step; summative assessment runs at term end and certifies learning.
  • An achievement test samples mastery of taught curriculum and is built from a blueprint of objectives and content; it does not predict future intelligence.
  • Primary CCE prefers criterion-referenced reporting and descriptive feedback over class rank ordering for Classes I to V.
