Hindi Grammar at the Primary Stage — Shabd Bhed, Kaal, Vaachya, and Voice Change
REET Level-1 primary Hindi grammar covers four linked areas: shabd-bhed, kaal, vaachya, and vaachya parivartan, all within the understanding level of Classes 1 to 5. Children learn eight word classes, three tenses, and three voices through familiar example sentences rather than abstract definitions. Voice change from active to passive requires के द्वारा on the doer, verb agreement with the object, and a shift of focus from the doer to the deed.
Key points
- Hindi has eight shabd-bhed in standard primary grammar; the first four (sangya, sarvanam, visheshan, kriya) are vikari and the last four (kriya-visheshan, sambandhabodhak, samuchchayabodhak, vismayadibodhak) are avikari.
- Three kaal — vartmaan, bhoot, bhavishyat — are taught at primary stage through verb endings on simple regular verbs from NCERT Rimjhim.
- Vaachya has three types — kartri (active), karm (passive), bhaav (impersonal) — and the verb agrees with the doer in kartri but with the deed in karm.
- Vaachya parivartan from kartri to karm needs three changes — के द्वारा on the doer, verb form agreeing with the deed, and focus shifting to the deed.
- Mixing visheshan with kriya-visheshan, or treating के द्वारा as a kartri marker, are the two most common Classes I–V mistakes that REET answer-keys keep flagging.
