Prime Minister Narendra Modi met and felicitated the Indian Women's Blind Cricket Team on November 29, 2025, celebrating their historic victory in the inaugural Blind Women's T20 World Cup 2025. India had defeated Nepal by seven wickets in the final held at P Sara Oval, Colombo, Sri Lanka on November 23, 2025, completing the tournament unbeaten. Phula Saren's match-winning innings of 44 off 27 balls was the highlight of the final. India defeated Sri Lanka, Australia, Nepal, USA, and Pakistan in the league phase, and Australia again in the semi-final. The Blind Women's T20 World Cup 2025 is the first-ever global cricket championship exclusively for women cricketers with visual impairment, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Blind cricket uses a white plastic ball filled with ball bearings that rattle as it rolls, enabling players to track it by sound. Players are classified as B1 (totally blind), B2 (partially sighted), and B3 (limited vision). The PM's meeting with the team was significant — it amplified national recognition for para-athletes and highlighted the need for greater institutional support, funding, and media coverage for para-sports in India. The team's achievement builds on India's men's blind cricket team's World Cup success and positions India as a leader in global blind cricket. The event brought attention to the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) and calls for its formal recognition by the BCCI.
