Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda inaugurated the 9th edition of India Pharma 2026 at Federation House, FICCI, New Delhi on April 13, 2026, in the presence of Minister of State Smt. Anupriya Patel. Organised by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, in association with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA), the two-day conference runs on April 13 and 14. The 2026 edition carries the theme "Discover in India: Leapfrogging Life-Sciences Innovation" and is designed to accelerate India's transition from a volume-driven generics model to a value- and innovation-led global pharmaceutical powerhouse aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. Sessions focus on drug discovery, complex generics, biosimilars, active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) self-reliance, and the resilience of global supply chains. The Drugs Controller General of India Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, Joint Drugs Controller Dr. A. Visala of CDSCO, and US FDA India Country Director Mr. Gregory Smith represent the regulatory side, while industry leaders including Sun Pharma's Dilip Shanghvi and Zydus Lifesciences' Pankaj Patel headline the business sessions. India is already the third-largest pharmaceutical producer by volume and supplies over 20 percent of the global generics market, with pharmaceutical exports of USD 30.5 billion in 2024-25. The conference is expected to catalyse R&D partnerships, Production Linked Incentive (PLI) uptake under the PLI 2.0 scheme, and global collaboration on next-generation therapies.
