On the evening of 11 May 2026, after attending the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav at Prabhas Patan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to Vadodara and inaugurated the Sardardham Hostel built by the Sardardham Trust in honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The project provides residential hostel facilities for 1,000 boys and 1,000 girls, along with a central dining hall, library and auditorium, intended to support students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds preparing for competitive examinations and higher education. The inauguration coincided with National Technology Day, and the Prime Minister linked education infrastructure with India's civilisational and technological journey. The Sardardham initiative has previously supported scholarships, civil services coaching, women empowerment programmes and start-up incubation. The Vadodara hostel campus is expected to host capacity-building programmes for youth from across Gujarat and neighbouring states. The Prime Minister recalled Sardar Patel's vision of integrated and empowered India, calling on youth to combine technological skills with social responsibility. The event was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, central ministers and trustees of the Sardardham organisation. The hostel adds to the network of residential education facilities aimed at expanding access for students from agrarian families and links culturally with the Somnath legacy of Sardar Patel.
