The Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) of the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC), under the Department of Biotechnology, hosted its third annual conference, Sinchan 2026, at the NCR Biotech Science Cluster campus in Faridabad. The meeting brought together global health leaders, biotechnology experts, venture capitalists, start-ups and policymakers to bridge coordination gaps and help convert laboratory research into patient solutions at commercial scale. Chief guest Dr Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said that institutions such as THSTI and platforms such as Sinchan are important for carrying innovation smoothly from discovery to commercialisation. THSTI Executive Director Professor Ganesan Karthikeyan highlighted the institute's Medical Research Centre and its Accelerated Product Fabrication and Pandemic Preparedness initiative. The centre includes an early-phase clinical trial unit, an advanced CAR-T cell research unit and India's first controlled human infection study facility. The initiative uses a national production platform to bridge the gap between validated research findings and manufacturable biological products. Regulatory and financing issues were also discussed. Drugs Controller General of India Dr Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi said CDSCO was shaping a new regulatory system for biological drugs with participation from non-government industry experts. Dr Manish Diwan described the recently established BIRAC Research Development and Innovation fund as a catalyst for closing lifecycle financing gaps faced by start-ups, industry and national laboratories. Sessions also addressed global health partnerships, faster early clinical translation and stronger commercialisation pathways for biotechnology start-ups.
