Namibian-born cheetah Jwala gave birth to five cubs at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh on March 9, 2026, taking India's total cheetah population to 53. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced the milestone, calling it 'a moment of great pride for Project Cheetah.' This is Jwala's third successful litter and the 10th cheetah litter born on Indian soil since the reintroduction programme began in September 2022. The number of India-born cheetah cubs has now risen to 33. Recently, on February 28, nine cheetahs from Botswana were also brought to Kuno as part of the ongoing reintroduction efforts.
