India's Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education announced on October 30, 2025 that a curriculum on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Thinking (CT) will be introduced in all schools from Class 3 onwards, starting the academic session 2026-27. A stakeholder consultation involving CBSE, NCERT, KVS, NVS, and external experts was held on October 29, 2025 to finalise the curriculum. CBSE has drafted a comprehensive AI & CT curriculum for Classes 3 to 12, with an age-appropriate, progressive framework: foundational concepts (Classes 3–5), applied projects (Classes 6–8), advanced AI tools (Classes 9–12). Resource materials, teacher handbooks, and digital content are to be ready by December 2025. The initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 mandate to integrate technology and 21st-century skills into school education, and India's goal of building an AI-ready workforce for a $5-trillion economy.
