On September 2–3, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Semicon India 2025 in New Delhi — India's largest semiconductor conference with over 350 exhibiting companies from 33 countries. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw presented PM Modi with the 'Vikram' chip (VIKRAM3201), India's first fully Make-in-India 32-bit microprocessor, designed and developed by ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in partnership with the Semiconductor Laboratory, Chandigarh. Vikram is engineered to withstand the harsh conditions of space launch vehicles.

The event marked a historic milestone in India's semiconductor journey. Since the Semicon India Programme was launched in 2021, the country progressed from approving its first plant in 2023 to five additional projects cleared in 2025. PM Modi called for development of local semiconductor intellectual property, underscoring India's ambition to become a global chip manufacturing hub and reduce dependence on imported electronics.
