SiCSem Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Archean Chemical Industries Ltd., officially broke ground on India's first integrated device manufacturing (IDM) facility for Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductors at Info Valley, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on November 1, 2025. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the project. The plant involves an investment of approximately INR 2,067 crore (USD 220 million), is expected to be operational by 2027–28, and will have an annual capacity to process 60,000 SiC wafers and package 96 million semiconductor units. SiCSem is partnering with British firm Clas-SiC Wafer Fab Ltd. The facility will handle SiC crystal ingot growth, wafer slicing, polishing, and fabrication of SiC diodes, MOSFETs, and power modules essential for EVs and green energy. The project is expected to create 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. This milestone is part of India's broader semiconductor self-reliance push under the India Semiconductor Mission.
