Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha on Monday, describing the West Asia situation as concerning and worrisome. He stated that any closure of the Strait of Hormuz is unacceptable, noting that a large quantity of crude oil, gas, fertilisers and essential items comes to India through this critical waterway.

Modi informed Parliament that India currently holds 53 lakh metric tonnes of strategic petroleum reserves and is sourcing energy from 41 countries with diversified import channels. He highlighted that India has increased its solar power capacity from approximately 3 GW to 140 GW over the past decade, strengthening domestic energy resilience. The government has made efforts to ensure that petrol, diesel, and gas supplies remain uninterrupted despite the ongoing conflict.
