India observed the 70th Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar on December 6, 2025, marking 69 years since his passing on December 6, 1956. The commemoration was organised by Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment at Prerna Sthal, Parliament House Campus, New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu led a high-level floral tribute ceremony at the life-size statue of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at the Parliament House Lawn, joined by Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Hariwansh Narayan Singh, Leader of the Opposition, and several other constitutional functionaries and Union Ministers. The entire event was opened to the public to pay their obeisance at Babasaheb's statue. Across India, millions of Dalits, Buddhists, and citizens gathered at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar, Mumbai — where Ambedkar is cremated — as well as at Ambedkar Jayanti venues, university campuses, and public squares in Nagpur, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Hyderabad to pay homage. Prime Minister Modi said Ambedkar's unwavering commitment to justice, equality and constitutionalism continues to guide India's national journey. The 70th Mahaparinirvan Diwas is particularly significant as it coincides with a period of renewed national debate on constitutional interpretation, social justice legislation, and caste enumeration. In Rajasthan, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and prominent leaders from Scheduled Caste communities paid tributes at Ambedkar statues across the state, including a major event in Jaipur organised by the Rajasthan Social Justice and Empowerment Department. Ambedkar, who was born in the Mhow cantonment of present-day Madhya Pradesh (bordering Rajasthan) in 1891, had deep connections with Rajasthan through his work among the Meghwal, Bairwa, Chamar, and other Scheduled Caste communities of the state. His advocacy for untouchability abolition and access to water sources directly addressed the social realities of rural Rajasthan.
