DoT Releases National Frequency Allocation Plan 2025, Supporting 5G, 6G, and Satellite Services
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) released the National Frequency Allocation Plan (NFAP) 2025, effective from December 30, 2025. The updated plan incorporates new frequency allocations to support 5G, emerging 6G research bands, satellite-based broadband services, and the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (NavIC).
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also announced three major reforms to strengthen India's telecom security ecosystem, including extended certification schemes for telecom equipment and reduced testing laboratory fees. The NFAP 2025 replaces the 2018 edition and aligns with decisions of the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-23). India's telecom sector now serves over 1.2 billion subscribers with 5G coverage reaching 700+ cities.
