Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Karakat in Bihar on 30 May 2026 and inaugurated, laid the foundation stone for and dedicated to the nation multiple development projects worth over Rs 48,520 crore aimed at strengthening eastern India infrastructure. The flagship announcement was the foundation stone for the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project Stage Two with three units of 800 megawatts each in Aurangabad district at a cost of around Rs 29,930 crore, expected to ensure energy security for Bihar and eastern India, boost industrial growth, generate large scale employment and supply affordable electricity. In the road sector, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the four laning of the Patna Arrah Sasaram section of National Highway 119A, the six laning of the Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata highway (NH-319B) along with the Ramnagar Kacchi Dargah stretch on NH 119D, and construction of a new Ganga bridge between Buxar and Bharauli to ease cross river traffic and unlock connectivity for Shahabad and Magadh regions. The Prime Minister also dedicated the third rail line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj developed at a cost of Rs 1,330 crore, which is expected to decongest the busy Grand Chord route, smoothen freight movement of coal and steel and improve passenger train punctuality across the Howrah Delhi corridor. The visit was part of a two day tour covering Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh with cumulative project value of over Rs 70,000 crore, underscoring the Centre focus on energy logistics and connectivity as drivers of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
