Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa on November 21, 2025 to participate in the 20th G20 Leaders' Summit (November 22–23, 2025), hosted under South Africa's G20 Presidency with the theme 'Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability'. This marks the first G20 Summit held on African soil. PM Modi proposed six new global development initiatives at the Summit: (1) Global Traditional Knowledge Repository, (2) Africa Skills Multiplier Programme, (3) Global Healthcare Response Team, (4) Initiative on Countering the Drug-Terror Nexus, (5) Open Satellite Data Partnership, and (6) Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative. Modi articulated that global development must evolve beyond GDP-centric metrics toward a holistic, human-centric model rooted in the Indian ethos of 'Integral Humanism'. He also participated in the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Leaders' Meeting on the sidelines. The Summit unfolded against the backdrop of the United States' boycott — the first time any G20 member has abstained since the grouping's formation in 1999. India reiterated its commitment to amplifying the voice of the Global South within global governance structures and used the platform to push for African Union's full integration into multilateral institutions. Rajasthan has significant stakes in India's global mineral diplomacy — particularly in the context of the Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative — given the state's rich deposits of zinc, lead, copper, potash, and rare earth minerals.
