Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on December 29, 2025 that all Australian tariff lines for Indian exports would become zero-duty from January 1, 2026 under the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA). The agreement was signed on April 2, 2022.

Official PIB data stated that India-Australia total bilateral trade stood at USD 24.1 billion in 2024-25. Under ECTA, Australia granted preferential market access on 100% of its tariff lines for imports from India; 98.3% became duty-free immediately and the remaining 1.7% were phased out over five years.
