Balod district in Chhattisgarh was officially declared India's first child marriage-free district on October 1, 2025, under the 'Child Marriage Free India' campaign launched nationwide on August 27, 2024. No cases of child marriage were reported in the district over the past two years.

All 436 gram panchayats and nine urban bodies of Balod were certified child marriage-free after thorough verification. The achievement reflects collective effort of administration, panchayats, Anganwadi workers, and community members. This paves the way for achieving a child marriage-free Chhattisgarh by 2028-29.
