On February 22, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first fully commissioned Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and dedicated the entire 82-kilometre Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation from Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Development projects worth approximately ₹12,930 crore were also inaugurated on the occasion.

The Namo Bharat RRTS, with a design speed of 180 km/h, is India's first-ever Regional Rapid Transit System — a concept that bridges the gap between intercity rail and metro transit. The corridor connects Delhi with major urban centres including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut. In a historic first, both the Namo Bharat RRTS and the Meerut Metro were launched from a single platform on the same day, with both systems running on a shared track-and-station infrastructure.

The system is developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) under the NCR regional transit framework implemented by NCRTC. PM Modi described the project as a new surge of energy for 'Viksit Uttar Pradesh' and 'Viksit Bharat'. For Rajasthan, the RRTS model provides a template for the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar RRTS corridor approved by Rajasthan in 2019, boosting connectivity and industrial corridor development.
