The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the Ministry of Home Affairs' proposal in September 2025 to appoint senior IPS officers Praveer Ranjan as Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Praveen Kumar as Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). In a later update, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued orders in January 2026 appointing Praveen Kumar as Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor as Director General of ITBP.

CISF, with over 1.7 lakh personnel, is responsible for security at major industrial installations, airports, metro networks, nuclear plants, and government buildings across India. ITBP guards the 3,488 km India-China border along the Line of Actual Control from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. Both forces are Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) under the MHA, playing crucial roles in India's internal security architecture.
