Udaipur ('City of Lakes') and Indore received the prestigious Ramsar Wetland City Accreditation on September 9, 2025, becoming the first two Indian cities on the global list. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav presented certificates at the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan Awards ceremony.

The accreditation was conferred at COP15 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe (July 23-31, 2025), where 31 new Wetland Cities were designated globally. Udaipur qualified due to its five major wetlands: Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar, and Doodh Talai, with strong community participation and integration of wetlands in urban planning.
