Udaipur, Rajasthan's famed 'City of Lakes', has been awarded the prestigious Ramsar Wetland City Accreditation at the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan Awards and Wetland Cities Recognition Ceremony 2025, organised by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. The city is surrounded by five major wetlands — Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar, and Doodh Talai — which collectively support rich biodiversity and sustain local livelihoods. The Ramsar Wetland City Accreditation (WCA) is a voluntary recognition system established under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, awarded for six years, honouring urban centres that demonstrate exceptional integration of wetland conservation into urban planning and engage local communities in sustainable wetland management.
