India was nearing a procurement milestone for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA): after the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) under DRDO floated an Expression of Interest, the Request for Proposal (RFP) was expected to be issued to eligible Indian private and public sector companies in the coming weeks as of May 2026.

The AMCA is India's first domestically designed 5th-generation stealth fighter aircraft, intended to strengthen the Indian Air Force's combat fleet. Reported technical features include a low-observable (stealth) airframe, an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, internal weapons bays, and advanced electronic warfare suites. The programme is a flagship effort under the Government of India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India in Defence initiatives, and is expected to deepen the domestic aerospace and defence manufacturing ecosystem once the RFP is formally issued.
