India and the European Union began the 14th round of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations on October 6 in Brussels, running until October 10. The talks covered 12 policy areas across 91 technical sessions. Key contentious issues include market access for automobiles, dairy, and wines, as well as India's concerns about the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

With India facing escalating tariff pressures from the United States, a strong India-EU trade pact could support exports, attract investment, and boost employment. EU-India bilateral trade has grown over 90% in the past decade. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal later visited Brussels to advance the talks, with both sides aiming to conclude the deal by December 2025. The FTA was eventually concluded on January 27, 2026.
