India celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Startup India initiative on National Startup Day, January 16, 2026. PM Modi announced that approximately 44,000 startups were registered in 2025, the highest annual addition since 2016. India is now the 3rd largest startup ecosystem globally, after the US and China, with over 2 lakh DPIIT-recognized startups.

The number of unicorns surged from 4 in 2014 to nearly 125 active ones by 2025. Startups have generated over 21 lakh direct jobs. Key support mechanisms include Fund of Funds via SIDBI, tax exemptions, and compliance simplification. Rajasthan organized National Startup Day at Madhav Auditorium under PM-USHA, with Deputy CM Dr Premchand Bairava as chief guest.
