Three-time Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat announced her return to competitive wrestling on December 12, 2025, targeting the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The 31-year-old stated 'the fire never left' her, nearly 18 months after retiring following the controversial Paris Olympics exit where she was found 100 grams overweight ahead of her 50kg final.

Phogat, who became an MLA from the Julana constituency in Haryana, cited her four-month-old son Kridhav (born July 2025) as her primary motivation. She aims to compete in the 53kg category at LA 2028. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Sanjay Singh welcomed her decision. Phogat is India's most decorated female wrestler with medals at multiple World Championships and Asian Games.
