Rajasthan is planning its first-ever interstate tiger translocation — also India's second such translocation of a wild tiger from one landscape to another. A tigress from Pench Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh will be airlifted to the Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve (RVTR) in Bundi district, pending final approval from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
The translocation aims to introduce genetic diversity and establish a viable breeding population in RVTR. The tigress will be fitted with a GPS radio-collar for real-time monitoring, movement analysis, and early detection of potential conflict or stress. The process follows IUCN translocation protocols. RVTR was notified as India's 52nd tiger reserve in 2022, creating a crucial corridor between Ranthambore and Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserves in Rajasthan.
