Udaipur (Rajasthan) and Indore (Madhya Pradesh) received their Ramsar Wetland City Accreditation certificates on September 9, 2025, during the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan Awards and Wetland Cities Recognition Ceremony in New Delhi. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav presented the certificates.

Udaipur and Indore are the first two Indian cities to earn a place on the global list of 31 accredited wetland cities under the Ramsar Convention. Udaipur is surrounded by five major wetlands — Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar, and Doodh Talai. The accreditation, valid for 6 years, was formally announced at COP15 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, in July 2025.
