India and New Zealand confirmed plans to sign a Free Trade Agreement in 2026, building on the momentum of strong bilateral ties. Both countries aim to expand trade in dairy, agriculture, IT services, and pharmaceuticals. Bilateral trade between India and New Zealand stood at approximately US$2.5 billion in 2024-25.

The FTA negotiations have been ongoing since 2010 under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership framework. Key issues include market access for New Zealand's dairy products and India's demand for liberalisation in services and temporary movement of natural persons. The trade agreement is expected to cover goods, services, investment, and intellectual property.
