A devastating fire at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, Goa killed 25 people and injured 50 on the night of December 6, 2025. The fire started around 11:45 PM IST, concentrated around the ground floor kitchen area, and was exacerbated by dried palm leaves used for decoration. Of the 25 victims, 21 were staff members and 4 were tourists. Most deaths were due to suffocation.

Investigation revealed multiple safety violations — the nightclub had been built illegally on a salt pan near a popular beach and had received a legal notice in November 2024 for the illegal structure. Police arrested four management personnel. The Goa government dismissed the Arpora Sarpanch and Secretary for 'persistent negligence.' Two more nightclubs were shut down for flouting safety norms.
