The FIDE World Chess Cup 2025 opened in North Goa on October 31, 2025, with the tournament trophy permanently named the Viswanathan Anand Cup in honour of India's five-time World Champion. Made of brass and coated with gold, the trophy was unveiled at the opening ceremony by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Goa CM Pramod Sawant.

The knockout tournament features 206 players from 82 countries competing for a $2 million prize purse and three Candidates 2026 spots. The event runs from October 31 to November 27. Uzbekistan's Javokhir Sindarov eventually won the tournament and was presented with the inaugural Viswanathan Anand Trophy.
