India observed its 76th Constitution Day (Samvidhan Diwas) on November 26, 2025, marking the 76th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution on November 26, 1949. The central national function was held in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan (old Parliament building) at 11:00 AM, presided over by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in the presence of Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Speaker of Lok Sabha Om Birla, Union Ministers, and Members of Parliament from both Houses. The theme for 2025 was 'Hamara Samvidhan – Hamara Swabhiman' (Our Constitution, Our Pride). On the occasion, the Legislative Department released the Constitution in nine new language versions — Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia, and Assamese — to promote wider linguistic accessibility of the foundational document. A commemorative booklet titled 'Bharat ke Samvidhan mein Kala aur Calligraphy' (Art and Calligraphy in the Indian Constitution) was also released. The Constitution of India was drafted over 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days (December 9, 1946 – November 26, 1949) by the Constituent Assembly, with Dr. B. R. Ambedkar chairing the Drafting Committee. It came into force on January 26, 1950 (Republic Day). Constitution Day was officially recognised on November 19, 2015, when the Government of India notified November 26 as Samvidhan Diwas to commemorate Dr. Ambedkar's contribution and to promote constitutional values. The 26/11 Mumbai terror attack (2008) anniversary also falls on the same date — police personnel paid tribute to victims at CSMT Mumbai. Nationwide trade union protests were held against new labour codes. Rajasthan's state government organised Constitution Day events at all district headquarters, emphasising fundamental rights, duties, and directive principles among students and public officials.
