The Government of Rajasthan published the Draft Code on Wages (Rajasthan) Rules, 2026 on 13th January 2026 via notification S.O.152, marking a major step toward operationalising the central Code on Wages, 2019 at the state level. The draft rules prescribe detailed mechanisms for minimum wage fixation, working hours, wage deductions, and institutional advisory structures. Employers are required to maintain prescribed registers and records — electronically or physically — containing details of employees, wages, deductions, fines, and other relevant particulars, accessible for inspection by the Inspector-cum-Facilitator. The draft is open for public consultation for 45 days, with objections addressable to the Labour Commissioner, Shram Bhawan, Jaipur. The Code on Wages, 2019 amalgamated four existing central labour laws — the Minimum Wages Act, the Payment of Wages Act, the Payment of Bonus Act, and the Equal Remuneration Act — simplifying India's fragmented wage legislation. Rajasthan's move follows several other states that have already notified their respective rules. The draft rules are expected to strengthen wage security for workers in Rajasthan's vast informal and organised sectors, including the state's significant textile, mining, and tourism industries. Compliance will affect millions of workers and thousands of establishments across urban and rural areas of the state.
