On September 23, 2025, Kolkata experienced a near-cloudburst with over 251 mm of rainfall in 24 hours. The most intense spell came between 3-4 AM with 98 mm in one hour. The event caused 9 deaths in Kolkata and 2 in nearby districts, with 30 injuries and 2 missing.

Several Durga Puja pandals were damaged including Singhi Park, Hatibagan Nabin Pally, and Chaltabagan Sarvajonin. Train and metro services were disrupted, 30 flights were cancelled, and waterlogging occurred across Garia and Jodhpur Park areas. SpiceJet and IndiGo issued travel advisories.
