The Hayli Gubbi volcano in Ethiopia's Afar region erupted on November 24, 2025, for the first time in at least 12,000 years. The eruption sent massive ash plumes across continents, disrupting aviation in India and the UAE. The 500-metre volcano is the southernmost in the Erta Ale Range.

Ash clouds reached Gujarat's coast late on Monday, then loomed over Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, and UP. Air India cancelled 13 flights including international services. IndiGo diverted its Kannur-Abu Dhabi flight to Ahmedabad. Aircraft that flew through affected regions required inspections. The Toulouse VAAC (Volcanic Ash Advisory Center) issued advisories for the region.
