Reliance Industries announced that from December 1, 2025, all products exported from its Jamnagar SEZ refinery would be sourced from crude oil produced outside of Russia. The company stopped importing Russian crude into its SEZ refinery from November 20 itself. This decision was driven by compliance with upcoming EU ban on fuel made from Russian oil through third countries (effective January 21, 2026) and US sanctions on Russian oil producers Rosneft and Lukoil.

Reliance had significantly cut its Russian crude intake to about 150,000 barrels per day from over 550,000 bpd earlier. The final Russian cargo was loaded on November 12, 2025. Any Russian crude arriving after November 20 would be processed at its domestic (non-SEZ) refinery only. This marks a major shift in India's energy import landscape, as Reliance is the country's largest private refiner.
