The National Statistics Office released Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) data showing India's unemployment rate fell to a 3-quarter low of 4.8% in October-December 2025 (Q3 FY26). Rural unemployment stood at 4.0% and urban unemployment at 6.7%.

Labour Force Participation Rate was 55.8%. The improvement reflects strong services sector hiring and construction activity. Monthly PLFS for February 2026 later showed further easing to 4.9%, with urban unemployment declining to 6.6%. Female unemployment declined significantly to 5.1% from 5.6%.
